Lincoln Wins LinOma Cup V

The Fifth Annual LinOma Cup, played at HiMark Golf Club on July 19th & 20th, was entitled "The Rubber Match", as the series stood tied at 2 wins apiece. The Ryder Cup style matches feature 24 of the most accomplished golfers from Omaha & Lincoln, in an annual battle to earn "bragging rights" for a year's time. The tournament, also features a Skins game, as well as a multitude of flag prizes for both cash & merchandise.

The event got off to a tight start, as the 6 Best Ball matches ended in a 9 to 9 draw. Saturday afternoon's matches, played as 9 holes of Team Total & 9 holes of Alternate Shot saw Lincoln open up a slim margin by winning the 6 matches, 10 1/2 to 7 1/2, making the 36 hole total, 19 1/2 to 16 1/2. Needing 36 1/2 points to win back the Cup, Lincoln surged to an early lead on Sunday and never looked back, winning the day 21 to 15, for a final total of 40 1/2 to 31 1/2. The margin of victory was the largest in LinOma Cup history.

The 6th Annual event is tentatively scheduled for July 18th & 19th, 2009 and the site(s) to be determined. Omaha will be attempting to keep their luck going in the odd years of the event, having won in both 2007 and 2005.
