Former National Football League Player Beasley Reece became KYW-3's lead sports anchor for Eyewitness News in July, 1998.
In addition to anchoring KYW's sportscasts, Reece hosts Eyewitness News Sports Rap, KYW-3's popular weekend sports program which follows Sunday's late news, and Eyewitness Sports Gameday, the station's Sunday morning pre-game show. Reece is also a member of the CBS Sports NFL broadcast team.
After a stellar football career at the University of North Texas, Reece was drafted by the NFL's Dallas Cowboys in 1976 and was drafted by the New York Giants in 1977. During his six and a half highly successful seasons with the Giants, Reece served as the team's defensive captain and was one of the League's fastest runners.
Interestingly, Reece was a teammate of former Giant Ray Rhodes, former coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. In 1983, Reece continued his outstanding career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
After retiring from the NFL in 1985, Reece began his sports broadcasting career at WTOG-TV in St. Petersburg, Florida, as a sports reporter and anchor. It was there that he developed his unique style of reporting and introduced his signature series of special reports, Beasley's Challenge, which featured Reece participating first hand in sports such as skydiving, synchronized swimming and racing.
After three years at WTOG, Reece went to WVIT-TV in Hartford, Connecticut where he earned four local Associated Press Awards. He rejoined WTOG as sports director in 1997.
Reece was part of the NBC Sports broadcast team for seven years providing game analysis for the NFL games. He also was a boxing commentator for the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics.
Active in the community, Reece has long supported a variety of charities, including the Boy Scouts, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Special Olympics and the American Heart Association. In addition, Reece is an award-winning motivational speaker who has talked to thousands of children about the dangers of drugs.
A native of Waco, Texas, Reece is married with two children. In his spare time, he is an avid singer and plays the piano. In fact, Reece has sung the National Anthem at several NFL games.
